Faculty Position, Department of Fashion and Textile Studies and Department of Textile/Surface Design
Fashion Institute of Technology

The Fashion Institute of Technology, an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York, invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions. Appointments will begin in fall 2008.

DEPARTMENT OF FASHION AND TEXTILE STUDIES
(graduate)
AND
DEPARTMENT OF TEXTILE/SURFACE DESIGN
(undergraduate) - Shared Position

Successful candidates are expected to actively participate in departmental and college-wide committee work; curriculum development; academic support services, such as portfolio review and general advisement; student recruitment and admissions; and professional organizations. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills; a commitment to quality education and student-centeredness; and the ability to work with a diverse student population and be part of a collaborative team. Must demonstrate leadership skills.

Qualifications: Ph.D. preferred with at least three years of successful graduate and undergraduate teaching experience. Responsibilities include teaching Western Costume and textile history, with an emphasis on modern textile designers in the undergraduate major of Fabric Styling and the graduate Department of Fashion and Textile Studies. Experience with museum exhibitions a plus; significant department/college-wide service required.

Professor of Fibers
The Savannah College of Art and Design

The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position in fibers. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in fibers or a related field. Experience in working with large-scale commissioned works; integration of art, craft and design philosophies; entrepreneurial and industrial partnerships; and technological applications are desired. Candidates should have experience in structural, 3-D fibers techniques with a focus on innovative structural/material studies. Knowledge of surface design and CAD surface/woven programs would be beneficial.
